Rick Pitino's Kentucky Wildcats entered the 1994-1995 season with plenty of firepower. They returned upperclassmen Tony Delk, Rodrick Rhodes, Mark Pope and Walter McCarty and added HS All-American Antoine Walker. With Jeff Sheppard and freshman Scott Padgett also on the roster, 7 UK players off the '95 team would go on to play in the NBA. That had the Wildcats entering the season ranked inside the top 5 of the preseason AP Poll and Big Blue Nation thinking Final Four.
After going 25-4 and claiming both the SEC regular season crown and the SEC Tournament Championship the Cats earned the #1 seed in the Southeast Region of the NCAA Tournament. Three blowouts against #16 Mount St. Mary's, #9 Tulane and #5 Arizona State put Kentucky one game away from the Final Four.
Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be as UK fell to #2 seed North Carolina, 74-61. However, the core of the '95 team would return the following year to be a part of one of the greatest teams in college basketball history.
