These Violet Peacock Freshwater Pearls are wire-wrapped in copper for a look that resembles black pearls. Foreign objects, such as grains of sand or parasites, become embedded in the mollusk's tissue which is then covered by layers of pearly material. Similar to an onion, the Pearl will acquire more and more layers, growing larger in size. The many folds of this organic material produce an iridescent sheen, making the Pearl one of nature's most unique beauties.
